If you are going to have future success in Powerlifting or any other strength sport, training consistency is a must. Many times we get off track because we are mentally exhausted with our training regimen. Many Powerlifters are inclined to limit their training to some version of the squat, bench press and deadlift. This becomes very monotonous.
You can keep your training fresh by frequently including more diverse functional exercises and / or introducing different training implements such as specialty bars, rubber bands, rope, boxes, boards, and chains. You should alternate and switch exercises regularly. It is also good to get out of the gym and train outdoors with sleds, tires, sandbags, logs, stones, etc.
This type of integrated training will keep you mentally fresh and physically growing.
